Is Kirkland’s going out of business?More shoppers are asking this question after seeing Kirkland’s stores close, branding change, and some locations transition to Bed Bath & Beyond. The changes are real, but they do not mean the entire retail business has suddenly disappeared. Instead, Kirkland’s is going through one of the biggest transformations in its history.

In 2025, Kirkland’s parent company adopted the new name The Brand House Collective. Bed Bath & Beyond later acquired the Kirkland’s Home brand assets and finalized its acquisition of The Brand House Collective in April 2026. These moves are changing how Kirkland’s stores operate and what shoppers will see in the future.

Kirkland’s Is Not Closing Entirely — Here’s What Is Happening

Kirkland’s has closed some stores, and additional locations have been selected for closure or conversion. However, this is not a simple nationwide going-out-of-business liquidation. In early 2026, The Brand House Collective still operated hundreds of physical stores across the United States, along with its e-commerce operations.

The main change is how these stores are now being included in Bed Bath & Beyond’s broader retail plans.  Some stores are being closed because they are underperforming or no longer fit the company’s plans. Others are being converted or incorporated into different concepts. This explains why one shopper may see a Kirkland’s location disappear while another may still have an operating store nearby.

Why Kirkland’s Is Closing These Specific Stores

The decision to close certain Kirkland’s stores is largely connected to financial performance and the wider restructuring of the business. More than 40 underperforming or non-strategic stores were identified for closure in early 2026 as part of a plan to reduce costs and improve inventory management.

Closing weaker locations can help a retailer focus money and resources on stores with stronger sales potential. It can also reduce expenses such as rent, utilities, staffing, and excess inventory. For Kirkland’s, these closures are part of a broader attempt to build a more efficient retail network rather than evidence that every location is shutting down.

The company is also evaluating its stores to decide which locations could work best for its new retail concepts. This means some former Kirkland’s spaces may continue serving shoppers but under a different name or format.

Which Kirkland’s Locations Are Closing and What Happens During a Closure

There is no simple statement saying that every Kirkland’s store across America will close. Instead, closures have been targeted toward locations considered underperforming or less important to the company’s future plans. The store count has been reduced as the company restructures its physical footprint.

When an individual store closes, shoppers may see clearance discounts as remaining merchandise is sold. Inventory may also be moved or reduced as the location approaches its final day. Exact discounts, closing dates, and product availability can differ from one location to another, so customers should check information for their specific store rather than assuming every Kirkland’s is following the same schedule.

Some locations have a different future. Instead of closing outright, several locations have been converted into new Bed Bath & Beyond store formats. This makes the situation different from a traditional retail collapse where every store is simply liquidated and abandoned.

The Rebrand to The Brand House Collective and What It Means for Shoppers

In 2025, Kirkland’s, Inc. rebranded at the corporate level, taking on the new name The Brand House Collective, Inc. The change reflected a strategy to move beyond operating only the Kirkland’s Home concept and become a multi-brand retail business. Its plans involved Kirkland’s as well as brands associated with Bed Bath & Beyond, Overstock, and buybuy Baby.

A significant development came in September 2025, when Bed Bath & Beyond purchased the Kirkland’s Home name and associated brand assets for $10 million. The Brand House Collective continued operating Kirkland’s-branded stores under a licensing arrangement while store conversions and restructuring moved forward.

The relationship went even further in 2026. Bed Bath & Beyond completed its acquisition of The Brand House Collective in April. As a result, Kirkland’s now sits within a much larger home-focused retail strategy rather than operating as the independent company shoppers knew for decades.

What Customers Should Do Right Now

Customers who regularly shop at Kirkland’s should check the status of their local store before making a special trip. One location may continue operating normally, another may be preparing to close, and another could eventually operate under a different retail concept. Local store information is therefore more useful than broad social media claims that “all Kirkland’s stores are closing.”

Online shoppers should also pay attention to changes in branding and the company’s digital shopping experience. The restructuring is designed around both physical stores and e-commerce, so online retail remains an important part of the wider strategy.

Customers with returns, rewards, gift cards, or pending orders should check the current terms that apply to them. During a major corporate transition, policies can change, and a closing location may handle certain services differently from a store that remains open.

What Does the Future Hold for Kirkland’s?

Kirkland’s future will look different from its past. Bed Bath & Beyond has indicated that Kirkland’s will continue to have a significant physical presence while the wider store network is integrated into its broader platform. In April 2026, the company said Kirkland’s would operate just over 230 locations nationwide.

The Kirkland’s Home name also has value beyond traditional Kirkland’s stores. Following the acquisition of these brand assets, Bed Bath & Beyond announced plans to introduce Kirkland’s Home products into the wholesale channel.  That creates the possibility of Kirkland’s products reaching customers through additional retailers and sales channels.

Still, the transformation is ongoing. Store closures, conversions, restructuring costs, and corporate changes show that the business has faced genuine challenges. Its long-term success will depend on whether the new strategy can attract customers while making its store network more profitable.

The Bottom Line

So, is Kirkland’s going out of business? As of September 2026, the answer is no. Some Kirkland’s stores have closed, and more locations have been affected by restructuring and conversions. Those changes are significant, but they are not the same as a complete companywide shutdown.

Kirkland’s has instead become part of Bed Bath & Beyond’s larger home retail business. Its ownership, corporate structure, physical footprint, and retail strategy have all changed. Shoppers may see fewer traditional Kirkland’s locations as this process continues, but the Kirkland’s name and home décor business have not simply disappeared.

For customers, the key is to separate individual store closures from the future of the overall brand. Kirkland’s is going through a major reinvention, and its next chapter will be shaped by new ownership, a changing store network, and a broader approach to home retail.
